Indonesia flight disruptions after Anak Krakatau eruption

Ash from Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau volcano has forced the temporary closure of eight airports nationwide, prompting the cancellation of roughly 2,300 scheduled flights and leaving more than 268,000 passengers stranded. At one of the affected airports, travelers formed long queues to request refunds for tickets rendered unusable by the disruption.

The widespread shutdown includes major hubs and regional facilities, halting both domestic and international services. Airlines have begun processing refund claims while also working to rebook affected passengers on later flights, though the volume of requests is straining ticketing counters and online systems. Aviation authorities are monitoring volcanic activity and ash dispersion, coordinating with airlines and airport operators to restore operations as conditions permit.

Officials indicated that flight resumptions will depend on ash concentration levels and safety assessments, with some airports expected to reopen within the next 48 hours.
