IIASA Releases Faster Tool for Regional Climate Risk Assessment
A collaborative team of researchers at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) has unveiled a new methodology that streamlines the production of regional climate and impact projections. The approach leverages existing outputs from Earth system and climate‑impact models, enabling the rapid generation of additional scenarios without the need for the computationally intensive, full‑scale model chains traditionally required for such assessments.
By integrating these pre‑existing model projections, the technique preserves the essential uncertainty ranges needed to evaluate climate risk while significantly reducing the time and resources needed for scenario analysis. The faster alternative promises to expand the number of feasible regional studies, allowing policymakers and scientists to explore a broader set of climate futures and to better inform adaptation and mitigation strategies.
