ICE reports record deportations with arrests every 54 seconds in July

In July, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained an average of one individual every 54 seconds, according to data compiled by the advocacy group AJ Labs. The agency reported a total of 5,200 arrests during the month, marking the highest daily arrest rate recorded in the agency’s recent history and surpassing the previous July record of 4,800 detentions in 2023.

AJ Labs’ analysis also highlighted that the surge in arrests coincided with a record number of deportations, with 12,300 removals processed in July—an increase of 9 percent over the prior month and the highest monthly total since the agency began publishing detailed removal figures in 2015. Officials attributed the rise to intensified enforcement operations targeting undocumented migrants in high‑risk areas and the implementation of new priority directives issued by the Department of Homeland Security. The data underscore a continued escalation in immigration enforcement activity as the agency approaches the end of the fiscal year.
