Humpback Whale Spotted in Sacramento River 60 Miles from Pacific Ocean

Denny Glover, a local angler, was on a routine fishing outing with friends along the Sacramento River when an unexpected sighting turned the day into a headline. While casting lines in hopes of a sizable catch, Glover spotted a fully grown humpback whale drifting near the river’s banks. The whale, estimated to be over 50 feet long, appeared disoriented and was soon surrounded by onlookers and nearby boaters.

River authorities were alerted immediately and dispatched a team of marine biologists and rescue specialists. The whale was assessed for injuries and health, and a temporary containment plan was implemented to keep it safe while transport arrangements were made.
