Huge Fire in Drammen Destroys 100 Homes

A large blaze in the southern Norwegian city of Drammen has prompted a nationwide firefighting response. Local emergency services reported that the fire, which began in the early hours of Tuesday, quickly spread through a densely built residential area, forcing residents to evacuate and causing significant structural damage.

To contain the rapidly expanding flames, firefighters from several other regions of Norway were mobilised and dispatched to Drammen. The additional personnel worked alongside the city’s own fire brigade, coordinating suppression efforts and assisting with evacuation procedures. Authorities confirmed that the combined teams were able to bring the fire under control by late afternoon, though the full extent of the damage remains to be assessed.

City officials have thanked the national response for its swift action and are currently evaluating the incident’s cause and the effectiveness of the emergency coordination. Residents are being advised to remain cautious as cleanup and repair work continues in the affected neighbourhoods.
