Hubble Space Telescope Captures Messier 3 Globular Cluster
NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has captured a striking image of Messier 3 (M3), one of the Milky Way’s most massive globular clusters. Located approximately 33,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Canes Venatici, M3 is a dense, spherical collection of hundreds of thousands of stars bound by gravity. The image highlights the cluster’s tightly packed core and its surrounding halo of stars, offering a glimpse into one of the galaxy’s oldest stellar systems.
Globular clusters like M3 are composed of ancient stars that formed from the same primordial gas cloud, resulting in uniform ages estimated at around 12 billion years—nearly as old as the universe itself.
