Hong Kong schools integrate AI into classrooms under new digital education blueprint

Artificial intelligence is becoming a regular feature of Hong King’s primary and secondary classrooms, a trend that has accelerated after the Education Bureau published its Blueprint for Digital Education Development. The blueprint, released last year, outlines a phased plan for integrating digital tools across the curriculum and commits the bureau to providing resources, professional development and infrastructure to support innovative technology in schools.

Under the plan, schools are encouraged to adopt AI‑powered applications that assist with personalised learning, automated grading, and data‑driven lesson planning. Pilot programmes in several districts have already seen teachers use chat‑based assistants to generate lesson outlines and students employ AI tutors for language practice. The bureau’s funding package includes grants for hardware upgrades, cloud services and training workshops, ensuring that both teachers and students can access and effectively use AI tools.

The Education Bureau’s initiative signals a broader shift toward digital literacy in Hong Kong’s education system.
