Heavy rains disrupt traffic in New Delhi

Heavy rains swept across New Delhi and its neighboring towns on Thursday, overwhelming drainage systems and bringing traffic to a standstill. Meteorological reports indicated that the city received more than 70 mm of rain within a six‑hour period, prompting waterlogging on major arterial roads such as the Ring Road, Ashram Marg and the Delhi‑Gurgaon Expressway. The sudden deluge forced commuters to abandon their vehicles, with many stranded at intersections and bus stops as floodwaters rose to ankle height.

City traffic police and municipal authorities responded by deploying additional personnel to manage the congestion, directing traffic away from the most affected zones and setting up temporary shelters for stranded passengers. Public transport services, including the Delhi Metro, operated on reduced schedules, while several bus routes were suspended due to impassable roads. Officials warned that further downpours could exacerbate the situation and urged residents to avoid non‑essential travel until conditions improve.
