Guatemala's Fuego Volcano Activity Decreases, Evacuation Risk Persists

Guatemala’s Fuego volcano, which erupted on Monday morning, has seen a gradual decline in activity, officials announced on Wednesday. The sudden eruption triggered widespread evacuations across the surrounding communities, prompting emergency services to mobilize and secure the area.

Fireball plumes and ash columns reached several hundred meters above the summit, and seismic monitoring recorded intense tremors that alarmed residents and authorities alike. As the volcanic activity subsides, the risk of further eruptions has lessened, allowing authorities to begin the process of reopening roads and easing restrictions for displaced residents.
