Greenworks Recalls 554,780 Power Tools Due to Fire Risk

Greenworks Tools has issued a voluntary recall for approximately 554,780 Kobalt-branded power tools, citing a battery issue that poses a risk of serious injury from fire hazards. The affected products are designed for yard work and include various models of trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, mowers, and pruning saws. These tools utilize 24V/48V lithium-ion batteries with a built-in USB-C charging port.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC), there have been 34 reported incidents of the tool's batteries producing smoke, sparking, or catching fire while inserted in the tool and charging via the USB-C port. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported as a result of these incidents. The recall aims to prevent potential harm and is a precautionary measure taken by the manufacturer to ensure consumer safety.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled products immediately and contact Greenworks Tools for a free replacement battery and instructions on how to receive a refund or a free replacement tool. The recall is a collaborative effort between Greenworks Tools and regulatory agencies to address the battery issue and prevent any potential risks associated with the affected products.
