Google signs largest rice-methane carbon credit deal with Mitti Labs
A new four‑year agreement has been signed to support rice cultivation across three Indian states, with the contract covering roughly 100,000 hectares at peak delivery. The deal, which brings together a national agricultural development agency and a consortium of private agribusiness firms, will standardise input provision, irrigation support and market access for farmers operating on the designated acreage.
The partnership aims to modernise production practices, improve yields and stabilize prices for the sector’s key crop. By coordinating seed distribution, pest‑control measures and logistics, the agreement is expected to reduce post‑harvest losses and create a more resilient supply chain for both domestic consumption and export markets. The three states—whose identities are still being finalized—will receive tailored advisory services and financial incentives to encourage adoption of high‑yield varieties and sustainable farming techniques.
If successfully implemented, the program could raise rice output by an estimated 15 % over the next four years, bolstering food security and providing a steady income stream for small‑holder farmers. The first tranche of support will roll out in the upcoming planting season, with full coverage expected by the end of the contract term.
