Google Renames NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook, Adds AI Mode in Search

Google announced that its AI‑powered “AI Mode” in Search will soon let users open and edit their Google Notebooks directly from the search interface. The feature, slated for rollout in the coming weeks, is part of Google’s broader effort to embed generative‑AI capabilities across its Workspace suite. By clicking the AI Mode icon in a search result, users can view the notebook’s contents, run code snippets, and receive contextual suggestions without leaving the search page.

The integration builds on Google’s existing AI tools, such as the Smart Compose and Smart Reply features already available in Docs and Sheets. Early testers reported that the notebook preview loads quickly and that the AI can offer real‑time code completions and data visualisations. Google said the move is designed to streamline workflows for data scientists and researchers who frequently switch between search queries and notebook environments. The company has not yet specified a precise launch date, but it expects the feature to be available to all Workspace users by the end of the month.
