Germany warns of daily hybrid warfare after explosive drone discovered

Berlin – Germany’s interior minister Nancy Faeser warned on Thursday that espionage, sabotage, cyber‑attacks and covert operations have become a “constant reality” for the country’s security services. The statement came during a press briefing on the Federal Ministry of the Interior’s annual security assessment, which highlighted a surge in hostile intelligence activities targeting German political, economic and critical‑infrastructure sectors over the past year.

Faeser cited a series of recent incidents, including the indictment of several foreign agents for industrial espionage, a series of ransomware attacks on municipal administrations, and alleged sabotage attempts on energy facilities linked to state‑backed actors. She noted that Germany is coordinating its response with EU partners and NATO allies, reinforcing cyber‑defence capabilities, expanding counter‑intelligence resources and tightening legal frameworks to address the evolving threat landscape. The minister emphasized that the government will maintain heightened vigilance and continue to adapt its strategies to protect national security and public interests.
