Gaza honors Al Jazeera journalists Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qraiqea

Gaza City — Authorities and community leaders in the Gaza Strip held a public ceremony on Saturday to honour Al Jazeera journalist Anas al‑Sharif and local activist Mohammed Qraiqea. Both men were killed in an Israeli airstrike on 22 May that targeted a residential neighbourhood in the northern Gaza city of Jabalia, prompting widespread mourning across the enclave.

The ceremony, organized by the Gaza Ministry of Information and attended by representatives of Al Jazeera, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and several civil‑society groups, featured a moment of silence, the reading of condolence letters, and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque bearing the names of al‑Sharif and Qraiqea. Officials highlighted the journalists’ commitment to reporting the humanitarian situation and the activists’ efforts to provide aid to displaced families. The event concluded with a pledge to continue documenting the conflict and supporting reconstruction, underscoring the broader resolve of Gaza’s residents to preserve the memory of those lost in the war.
