Gaza Conditions Remain Dire Despite Ceasefire

Alison Sargent welcomed Shaina Low, Communications Advisor for the Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) Palestine mission, at a briefing on Gaza’s ongoing humanitarian crisis. Low emphasized that, even with a reduction in large‑scale hostilities, the region remains in a state of structural emergency. She argued that humanitarian actors are unable to move beyond short‑term relief because of extensive restrictions on aid, construction materials, fuel, and operational access.

Low’s remarks highlighted that the central challenge is no longer the sheer scale of destruction but the inability to reverse it, despite the existence of a ceasefire. She warned that without lifting these constraints, the NRC and other aid agencies will be unable to provide the necessary reconstruction and long‑term support to the affected population. The briefing underscored the need for renewed international attention to the logistical and regulatory barriers hampering relief efforts in Gaza.
