French PM Lecornu’s Rabat Visit Signals Strengthened France‑Morocco Partnership

Paris and Rabat deepened their bilateral ties this week as senior officials from both capitals exchanged visits that underscored a shift from a diplomatic rapprochement to a broader strategic partnership. French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné arrived in Rabat for a three‑day itinerary that included talks with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and a joint press conference at the Royal Palace. The leaders highlighted recent progress in normalising relations, noting that the visits build on the restoration of full diplomatic engagement that began earlier this year after a period of strained contacts.

During the meetings, the two governments signed memoranda of understanding covering defence cooperation, renewable‑energy projects, and trade facilitation. The defence pact outlines joint exercises and technology sharing, while the energy agreement aims to expand Morocco’s solar capacity with French investment. A commercial accord seeks to reduce tariff barriers for agricultural exports and promote French‑Moroccan joint ventures in logistics. Both sides said the agreements reflect a mutual interest in stabilising the Mediterranean region and enhancing economic resilience, signalling a comprehensive partnership that extends beyond political dialogue.
