France Loses 2,000 Hectares to Wildfires

France is confronting an unprecedented wave of wildfires triggered by record-breaking heatwaves, with officials noting that the frequency and scale of the blazes surpass any experienced since World War II. Among the most severe incidents, a fire in the historic Fontainebleau forest, located south of Paris, has consumed thousands of hectares of woodland, threatening both biodiversity and cultural heritage sites within the protected area.

In response, the Fondation du Patrimoine has launched a fundraising campaign aimed at restoring the damaged forest through large‑scale replanting efforts. The initiative seeks contributions from private donors, corporate partners and the public to finance sapling procurement, soil preparation and long‑term monitoring of the regenerated ecosystem.
