France deploys over 5,200 personnel to fight Gironde wildfires

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez warned on Sunday that the wildfire situation in southwestern France remained “very unfavourable,” describing the night as “another difficult night on the wildfire front.” He posted the statement on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, as the fires continued to spread across the Gironde department.

In response to the escalating blaze, authorities have mobilised a substantial emergency response force. A total of 2,500 firefighters, including a Swiss firefighting team, are on the ground, supported by 1,500 military personnel and approximately 1,200 police officers. The deployment reflects the severity of the situation and the need for coordinated efforts to contain the fires and protect local communities.
