France and UK to Join 10 Nations Banning West Bank Settlement Products

Paris – French Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot announced on Tuesday that France will move to prohibit the import and sale of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The decision follows a recent surge in settler‑related violence that has further eroded prospects for a negotiated two‑state solution between Israel and the Palestinians. Barrot said the measure will be implemented through existing French customs regulations, which already allow the exclusion of products originating from territories deemed occupied under international law.

The forthcoming ban aligns France with a broader European trend of restricting settlement‑linked commerce, mirroring similar steps taken by the European Union in 2023. Israeli officials have previously criticized such policies as punitive, while Palestinian authorities have welcomed the move as a reinforcement of international legal norms.
