Former Congressman George Santos Banned for Life from Kalshi Betting Platform
Kalshi, a regulated U.S. prediction‑market platform, has lodged a formal complaint alleging that the Australian energy firm Santos Ltd. engaged in prohibited trading activity and issued misleading statements that distorted market prices on its platform. According to Kalshi, the company executed trades that violated the exchange’s rules against influencing outcomes, and its public comments about production forecasts and regulatory approvals were later found to be inaccurate, prompting a sharp swing in the price of the Santos‑related contracts.
The operator says the conduct not only breached Kalshi’s internal compliance standards but also potentially misled participants who rely on the platform’s data for investment decisions. Kalshi has forwarded its findings to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and other relevant authorities for further investigation, while Santos has declined to comment on the allegations. The dispute highlights growing scrutiny of prediction markets as regulators assess the need for clearer guidance on permissible behavior and the reliability of information disseminated within these emerging financial venues.
