Florida Scientists Plant Young Coral to Study Heat Resilience
Off Florida’s coast, a coordinated team of marine scientists and trained volunteers descended in scuba gear to the ocean floor to carry out a coral restoration project. The crew planted young coral fragments onto a damaged reef site, securing them with biodegradable anchors to give the new colonies a chance to grow in a habitat that has suffered repeated bleaching events.
