Floods and landslides on China-Nepal border kill over 500, affect 93,000

The Red Cross reports that more than 93,000 people have been impacted by deadly floods and landslides along the China‑Nepal border. The disaster, triggered by intense rainfall in the region, has caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and agricultural land, prompting emergency shelters and relief distribution across affected villages on both sides of the frontier.

Rescue operations were temporarily halted after an upstream lake overflowed, raising the risk of additional flooding downstream. Authorities are monitoring water levels while coordinating with humanitarian groups to resume evacuations and aid delivery once the threat subsides. The Red Cross and local governments continue to assess needs and plan further assistance for the displaced population.
