Flash floods in Arizona's Grand Canyon leave over 20 missing

A flash flood swept through Arizona’s Grand Canyon on Saturday, leaving more than 20 individuals unaccounted for and prompting an extensive search operation. The sudden deluge, triggered by heavy thunderstorms that dumped over two inches of rain in a short period, caused river levels to surge, sweeping hikers and campers from trails and campgrounds along the Colorado River corridor.

Federal, state, and local agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, have deployed helicopters, drones, and ground teams to locate the missing and assess damage. As of Sunday morning, officials confirmed that rescue crews have recovered several bodies, but the majority of the missing remain unlocated, and the search is expected to continue for several days amid lingering floodwaters and rugged terrain.
