Flash flood kills one, leaves over 15 missing in Grand Canyon National Park

A flash flood that struck Grand Canyon National Park on Saturday has left at least one person dead and more than 15 others missing, the National Park Service announced on Sunday. The sudden downpour caused severe flooding in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area, forcing park officials to evacuate visitors and initiate search operations.

Emergency crews are combing the canyon walls and surrounding trails for survivors, while the park’s emergency response team coordinates with local law‑enforcement agencies and the U.S. Forest Service. The National Park Service has urged anyone in the area to remain indoors and to heed evacuation orders, noting that the floodwaters have created hazardous conditions for both hikers and wildlife.
