Explosion at Kyiv weapons depot kills 37, forces evacuations
An investigation has been launched by Ukrainian law‑enforcement agencies into the storage of military weapons near a residential district in the western city of Lviv. According to the regional police chief, the cache, reportedly belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces, was discovered during a routine safety inspection of a privately owned warehouse situated only a few blocks from a school and several apartment complexes. The authorities have sealed the site, removed the armaments and opened a case to determine whether proper procedures for the handling and placement of military materiel were followed.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence have confirmed that the weapons were intended for use by Ukrainian troops but emphasized that the location was not an officially sanctioned depot. The investigation will assess compliance with national security regulations and address concerns raised by local residents about potential hazards. Findings are expected to be presented to the prosecutor’s office within the next two weeks, after which appropriate legal or administrative actions will be taken.
