Evenepoel wins Tour de France Stage 16 time trial, remains second overall

Remco Evenepoel took the win in Stage 16 of the Tour de France, a 35‑kilometre individual time trial between Évian and Thonon. The Belgian, a three‑time world time‑trial champion, finished 28 seconds ahead of the race leader, Tadej Pogacar, and 1 minute 4 seconds clear of Mattias Skjelmose.

The time trial came just two days after Evenepoel’s victory at Plateau de Solaison, underscoring his continued form on the flat and rolling terrain of the race. His performance in the stage reinforced his reputation as one of the strongest time‑trialists in the peloton, while the margin over Pogacar highlighted the tight competition for overall honours.

Evenepoel remains in second place overall, trailing Pogacar by 4 minutes 32 seconds in the general classification. The result keeps the Belgian within striking distance of the yellow jersey, but the Slovenian’s lead remains decisive as the Tour enters its final stages.
