European leaders rally in Kyiv to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day

European leaders gathered in Kyiv on August 24 to join President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in official celebrations of Ukraine’s Independence Day, amid Russia’s ongoing four‑year‑old invasion. The event drew heads of state and government from across Europe, underscoring continued Western support for Ukraine as the conflict escalates.

Among the guests was the United Kingdom’s new prime minister, Andy Burnham, making his first overseas trip since taking office in July. His presence marked a significant diplomatic gesture, signalling the UK’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty.
