Erdogan discusses Turkey's foreign policy, regional conflicts and 25 years of AK Party rule

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sat down for a televised interview to outline his administration’s foreign‑policy priorities, assess ongoing regional conflicts, and reflect on the Justice and Development Party’s (AK Party) 25‑year tenure. He emphasized that Turkey will continue to pursue a “strategic autonomy” that balances relations with NATO allies, the European Union, and Russia, while asserting its role as a regional mediator. Erdogan highlighted recent diplomatic initiatives, including renewed dialogue with Greece over maritime disputes and the continuation of Turkey’s “zero‑problem” policy with neighboring states.

Regarding conflicts in the Middle East, the president reaffirmed Turkey’s support for a political solution in Syria, condemning external interference and calling for the full implementation of the Astana peace process. He also addressed the war in Ukraine, stating that Turkey remains committed to facilitating humanitarian aid and maintaining the safety of Black Sea navigation, while preserving its own national interests. On the broader security landscape, Erdogan warned of the destabilising impact of extremist groups and urged regional partners to cooperate on counter‑terrorism efforts.
