England to consider up to ten candidates for new Test head coach

England’s cricket governing body has confirmed that it will be canvassing a shortlist of between six and ten candidates to replace Brendon McCullum as the national Test head coach. ECB chief executive Richard Gould said the search would begin shortly after McCullum’s contract expires, noting that the organization is looking for a coach who can build on the progress made during his brief tenure.

McCullum was appointed in 2023 but has yet to take charge of a Test match, and the ECB has indicated that the new coach will be expected to deliver immediate results while maintaining the team’s long‑term development. The board will review the shortlisted candidates’ experience, coaching credentials and ability to work with England’s senior squad before making a decision.

The ECB has not yet announced a timeline for the appointment, but it has stated that it will keep stakeholders informed as the selection process moves forward.
