Endeavour Optical Networks to launch fastest space laser communications system
Endeavour Optical Networks announced plans to deploy what it describes as the fastest space‑based laser communications system ever built. The company, which specializes in high‑throughput optical links for satellite networks, said the new system will leverage advanced photonic hardware and adaptive beam‑steering technology to achieve data rates that surpass existing radio‑frequency and laser solutions.
The rollout is slated for the second half of 2027 and will initially serve a constellation of low‑Earth‑orbit satellites intended for broadband and scientific data transmission. Endeavour Optical Networks indicated that the system’s increased bandwidth could reduce latency for global communications, support real‑time Earth observation, and enhance inter‑satellite networking. The project is being developed in collaboration with several aerospace manufacturers and will undergo testing on a dedicated testbed satellite before full operational deployment.
