Ebola outbreak in DRC kills over 400, reaches Kisangani

An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has claimed more than 400 lives and is expanding beyond its original focus in the country’s northeastern region. Health authorities confirmed the first case in Kisangani, a major city located several hundred kilometres from the epidemic’s epicentre, marking the virus’s entry into a densely populated urban area.

The spread to Kisangani heightens concerns among national and international health agencies, which are intensifying surveillance, contact tracing and vaccination efforts to contain the disease.
