Ebola outbreak in DRC becomes deadliest with over 2,300 deaths

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s current Ebola outbreak has become the country’s deadliest, with government data reporting at least 2,325 deaths. The toll exceeds the 2018‑2020 epidemic, which claimed 1,400‑1,600 lives. The national public health institute confirmed 4,945 cases as of Sunday, including 101 new infections identified in the preceding 24 hours.

Health authorities say the surge is driven by widespread transmission in the eastern provinces, where access to treatment centers remains limited. The Ministry of Health has intensified contact tracing and vaccination campaigns, but logistical challenges and community resistance have hampered containment efforts.
