Drones detected in Bulgaria and Germany amid Russian escalation concerns

European authorities reported a series of unauthorized drone incursions over the past week, prompting heightened alerts across NATO member states. On Tuesday, Polish air defense units intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle that entered the country’s eastern airspace near the Belarusian border, while a similar object was detected over Romanian territory earlier in the week. Both incidents were logged by national air surveillance systems and confirmed by NATO’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) command, which classified them as “unidentified aerial phenomena” pending further investigation.

The events have intensified concerns that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is spilling over into the alliance’s eastern flank.
