DR Congo Ebola outbreak tops 3,000 cases

Medics in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have reported more than 3,000 confirmed Ebola cases and 1,354 deaths as of Sunday, marking the most severe surge in the country’s 17th outbreak. Health officials said the number of new infections rose by roughly 1,000 over a ten‑day period, a rapid increase that has drawn international concern.

The outbreak, which began in the eastern provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, has been tracked by the World Health Organization and the DRC Ministry of Health.
