DR Congo, AFC/M23 Agree on Peace Negotiation Roadmap

Mediators representing the Rwanda‑backed African Union‑supported Front for the Liberation of Rwanda (AFC/M23) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) released a joint statement on Sunday announcing a new roadmap for peace talks. The announcement comes amid ongoing tensions in the eastern provinces, where ceasefire violations have frequently disrupted humanitarian efforts.

The statement highlighted that both parties now agree on the necessity of a standardized method for reporting alleged ceasefire breaches. The agreed framework aims to provide clear, verifiable procedures for documenting incidents, thereby reducing misunderstandings and fostering accountability during the negotiation process.

With the roadmap in place, the parties signal a willingness to move toward a negotiated settlement.
