DJI launches Romo 2 robovac series with enhanced climbing, quieter operation and local‑only data mode

DJI has unveiled the second‑generation Romo robotic vacuum, the Romo 2 series, which promises quieter operation, stronger suction and enhanced obstacle navigation. The new line includes two variants – the transparent P2 and the opaque A2 – both equipped with upgraded navigation that can detect and bypass cables and other impediments as fine as 2 mm, as well as transparent surfaces such as mirrors and glass. The company also added a local‑only data mode, a feature aimed at addressing the security concerns that plagued the original Romo model.

In addition to the hardware improvements, DJI claims the Romo 2 incorporates “human‑like reasoning and concept transfer,” enabling the robot to adapt its cleaning strategy to unfamiliar environments more effectively. The updated firmware reportedly allows the device to better recognize and climb over small steps and other obstacles, reducing the likelihood of getting stuck during operation. These refinements are positioned as a direct response to the first Romo’s documented privacy and data‑handling vulnerabilities.

The announcement signals DJI’s intent to re‑establish consumer confidence in its home‑robotics line. By combining quieter performance, stronger suction, advanced obstacle avoidance, and a stricter local data policy, the Romo 2 series seeks to deliver a more reliable and secure cleaning experience for users.
