Crypto executive missing for four years, successor now under scrutiny
Poland and Estonia announced a bilateral partnership on Thursday aimed at harmonising their approaches to cryptocurrency regulation and fostering cross‑border digital‑asset services. The agreement, signed in Warsaw by the Polish Ministry of Finance and Estonia’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, establishes a joint working group to develop common standards for anti‑money‑laundering (AML) compliance, consumer protection, and licensing of crypto‑exchange platforms operating in both countries. Officials said the collaboration will also explore the creation of a shared sandbox environment where fintech firms can test blockchain‑based solutions under coordinated supervisory oversight.
The initiative comes as both nations seek to position themselves as competitive hubs for digital‑finance innovation within the European Union, while aligning with forthcoming EU directives on crypto‑assets. By pooling regulatory expertise and facilitating seamless market access, the partnership is expected to attract investment from domestic and international firms and reduce operational barriers for existing providers. The working group is slated to deliver its first set of recommendations by the end of 2027, with the possibility of expanding the framework to include additional EU members in the future.
