Chinese firm unveils Superman humanoid robot

Chinese robotics firm HorizonTech announced the launch of its latest humanoid robot, dubbed “Superman,” during a press event in Shanghai on Tuesday. The company described the new model as a next‑generation platform designed to bridge the gap between industrial automation and human‑like dexterity, positioning it as a potential asset for sectors ranging from manufacturing to eldercare.

Superman stands 1.75 meters tall, weighs 70 kilograms, and is equipped with a 30‑degree range of motion at each joint, powered by a lightweight carbon‑fiber frame and an integrated battery pack that offers up to six hours of continuous operation. According to HorizonTech’s spokesperson, the robot incorporates a suite of sensors—including LiDAR, stereo cameras, and force‑feedback actuators—to enable precise manipulation and navigation in dynamic environments. The system also supports voice and gesture recognition, allowing operators to issue commands through natural language or simple hand signals. In a demonstration, the robot successfully assembled a small electronic circuit and assisted an elderly volunteer in reaching for a cup, underscoring its dual focus on industrial efficiency and assistive care.

Industry analysts view the unveiling as a significant step in China’s push to advance humanoid robotics, a field that has lagged behind Western competitors in terms of commercial deployment.
