China cancels over 1,600 flights as Typhoon Dolphin approaches

Over 1,600 flights have been cancelled as Typhoon Dolphin moved toward China’s eastern coastline, with the storm’s sustained winds reaching 162 km/h (100 mph) overnight. The China Meteorological Administration issued a red alert for the region, prompting civil aviation authorities to suspend services at major hubs including Shanghai Pudong, Hangzhou and Ningbo to ensure passenger safety.

Airlines and airport operators coordinated the cancellations and rerouted several flights to inland airports, while ground staff prepared for potential flooding and power disruptions in coastal provinces such as Zhejiang and Jiangsu. Officials emphasized that the measures are temporary and will be reassessed as the typhoon’s intensity changes, aiming to restore normal operations once the threat subsides.
