China aims to present itself as stabilising force in global politics, expert says

In an interview with France 24’s Monte Francis, Rex Li, a professor of international relations at King’s College London, said China is seeking to promote an alternative international security order and present itself as a stabilising force in global politics. Li noted that Beijing has shown an increasing willingness to assume a more prominent role in resolving the Middle‑East conflict, signalling a shift in its diplomatic posture toward the region.

Despite this expressed intent, Li observed that concrete proposals from China to end the hostilities have yet to materialise. He emphasized that while the Chinese government appears ready to engage more actively, the absence of specific initiatives underscores the gap between its stated ambitions and actionable contributions to peace efforts.
