Chess.com Launches Free Poker Site Gambit, Aims for More Classic Games
Chess.com, the leading platform for online chess, has expanded its portfolio beyond its namesake game with the launch of Gambit, a free‑to‑play online poker site. First introduced in beta in May, Gambit allows users to learn and practice poker without wagering real money. The service is now moving into a public phase, marked by its inaugural livestreamed tournament and partnerships with several content creators who will showcase the platform to a broader audience.
Chief Growth Officer Albert Cheng explained to The Verge that poker was selected as the initial companion offering because it shares strategic and analytical qualities with chess, making the transition natural for the company’s existing user base. Chess.com’s leadership indicated that Gambit is the first step in a broader diversification strategy that could see additional gaming experiences added to the brand’s ecosystem in the near future.
