Canada to Join Eurovision Song Contest in 2027

Canada will become the first new participant in the Eurovision Song Contest since Australia entered in 2015, with its debut slated for the 2027 edition, organizers announced on Monday. The country secured its eligibility after joining the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) this week, the same alliance that governs the contest and permits membership beyond geographic Europe. Event director Nikki Blanchard said the addition “continues to welcome the world,” underscoring the contest’s expanding international reach.

The move marks a notable shift for the competition, which has traditionally featured European nations but has increasingly opened its doors to EBU members worldwide. Australia, an associate member, has competed since 2015, paving the way for other non‑European broadcasters. Canada’s participation will be confirmed by the EBU in the coming months as preparations for the 2027 contest progress.
