BRICS leaders meet in New Delhi for final summit day

BRICS heads gathered in New Delhi on Saturday for the concluding day of the group’s summit, bringing together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The meeting, hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked the final session of a three‑day gathering that focused on economic cooperation, trade facilitation and coordination on global governance issues.

The summit was marked by noticeable divisions over the ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine. While Russia and its allies reiterated support for a negotiated settlement in Ukraine and condemned Western sanctions, representatives from Brazil and South Africa called for an immediate cease‑fire and emphasized the need for humanitarian assistance. In parallel, discussions on Iran highlighted differing views on regional stability, with China urging diplomatic dialogue and India stressing respect for sovereignty. The leaders issued a joint communiqué that reaffirmed commitment to multilateralism but omitted any consensus on the two wars, signaling continued diplomatic friction within the bloc as it concludes its New Delhi session.
