Bordeaux veterinary team assists pets of wildfire evacuees

A veterinary team from Bordeaux is currently caring for the pets of families displaced by the recent wildfires that swept through Gironde. The team has set up a temporary clinic in the city, where animals receive food, medical treatment and routine care while their owners remain in evacuation shelters.

The wildfire, which began in early June, forced thousands to leave their homes, leaving many pets behind. Bordeaux’s veterinary staff, in cooperation with local animal welfare groups, has provided a range of services including vaccinations, wound care, and psychological support for anxious animals. The team also coordinates with shelters to ensure that pets are reunited with their families as soon as it is safe to return to their homes.

As the region works to restore normalcy, the Bordeaux team’s efforts are helping to ease the burden on evacuees. Once families can safely return, the pets will be transferred back to their owners, with the veterinary staff continuing to offer follow‑up care as needed.
