Blizzard announces StarCraft open-world shooter set for 2030
Blizzard Entertainment announced at BlizzCon that the long‑delayed StarCraft project will be revived under the simple title “StarCraft,” slated for release in 2030. The company’s original attempt to translate the StarCraft universe into a 3D shooter began in 2002 with the development of *StarCraft: Ghost*, a title that lingered in development hell for over a decade before Blizzard president Mike Morhaime confirmed its cancellation in 2014.
During the conference, Blizzard vice‑president Dan Hay presented a cinematic trailer for the new game, revealing that it will depart from the franchise’s traditional top‑down real‑time strategy format and instead launch as an open‑world shooter. The announcement marks Blizzard’s first major foray into a StarCraft‑themed action title since the abandonment of *Ghost*, and the company indicated that further details on gameplay and narrative will be disclosed as the 2030 launch approaches.
