Azerbaijan allocates €540 million to climate‑resilient irrigation and launches AI farmer‑scoring system

The government has pledged €540 million to support climate‑resilient irrigation across the nation, marking a significant investment in sustainable agriculture. The funding is aimed at modernising water‑management infrastructure and promoting practices that mitigate the impacts of climate change on food production.

In parallel, the ministry, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has launched an artificial‑intelligence‑driven farmer‑scoring system. The platform evaluates smallholder farms based on the adoption of water‑saving and soil‑regenerating techniques, and it directs targeted subsidies to those who meet the criteria, thereby incentivising the uptake of environmentally friendly methods.

The combined initiative seeks to enhance water efficiency, improve soil health and bolster the resilience of the agricultural sector, while providing financial support to farmers who implement the prescribed climate‑adaptation measures.
