Aung San Suu Kyi seen healthy in first confirmed meeting with ICRC after 2.5 years

Myanmar’s military administration has issued a new set of photographs that depict Aung San Suu Kyi meeting with an official from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The images, released on Thursday, show the former state counsellor seated alongside the ICRC delegate in a modest meeting room within the capital’s prison complex, where Suu Kyi has been held since the February 2021 coup that ousted her government.

The military’s public relations office said the meeting, which took place on Monday, was part of ongoing efforts to facilitate humanitarian access and address the health and welfare needs of detainees. The ICRC statement confirmed that its representative was conducting a routine visit to assess conditions and discuss possible assistance, emphasizing the organization’s neutral role in conflict-affected settings. The release of the photos follows international calls for greater transparency regarding Suu Kyi’s treatment and broader concerns about human‑rights violations in Myanmar.
