At least three dead, hundreds displaced after heavy rain floods in Chile

Santiago – Chilean President José Antonio Kast announced on Tuesday that he will travel to the Biobío region later this week to inspect damage caused by recent flooding. The visit follows a series of heavy rainstorms that triggered river overflows and landslides across several municipalities, prompting emergency declarations and the deployment of military and civil defense units.

Kast’s itinerary includes stops in Concepción, Los Ángeles and the coastal town of Talcahuano, where he will meet local officials, review relief operations and assess the needs of affected residents. Authorities have reported dozens of homes destroyed, infrastructure disruptions and several evacuations, while the government has allocated additional funds for reconstruction and pledged to expedite aid distribution. The president’s on‑site assessment is intended to inform further national support and coordinate ongoing recovery efforts.
