Armed attacker arrested after injuring people at Ohio Democrat Amy Acton's campaign stop

Patrick Havas, 38, was taken into custody by Ohio State Highway Patrol after a disturbance at a campaign event for Democratic candidate Amy Acton in Columbus on Saturday. Police reported that Havas entered the venue armed with a handgun and a large knife, and during the ensuing confrontation he wounded at least three attendees before officers subdued him and secured the weapons.

Authorities confirmed that the injured parties received treatment at a nearby hospital for non‑life‑threatening injuries. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has charged Havas with unlawful possession of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault. Acton, the former state health director now seeking elected office, issued a brief statement condemning the violence and thanking first responders for their swift action. The investigation remains ongoing, and Havas is scheduled to appear in Cuyahoga County Court later this week.
