Antares secures $470 million to develop small modular nuclear reactors for US Air Force bases

Antares, a developer of small modular reactors (SMRs), has secured $470 million in funding to construct units ranging from 100 kW to 1 MW for U.S. Air Force bases. The capital infusion will support the company’s plan to deliver compact, scalable nuclear power solutions that can be deployed rapidly to meet the energy needs of military installations.

The funding, sourced from a mix of private investors and strategic partners, will be used to advance Antares’ technology platform, build demonstration plants, and pursue regulatory approvals. The company’s SMRs are designed to provide reliable, low‑carbon power for remote or high‑security sites, potentially reducing reliance on diesel generators and enhancing operational resilience for the Air Force.

With the new capital, Antares aims to begin construction of its first SMR units by the end of 2025, targeting deployment at select bases within the next few years. The project underscores the growing interest in nuclear SMRs as a flexible energy option for the Department of Defense’s evolving infrastructure needs.
